Stop It! Stop it now! But how? How do you just stop it when you have fear of something? How do you just stop it when life throws you a curve ball? Sometimes you can’t just “stop it” and have to move through the feelings but many times doing a “pattern interrupt” will stop you going down a thought path that leaves you spiraling downhill.

Even if you are in the middle of processing feelings from a loss or serious transition, give your mind a break by doing some kind of pattern interrupt. What is a pattern interrupt? Our thoughts go through neurological pathways in our brains. Interrupting the path your thoughts are going down and sending them to a new path can help alleviate pain, anxiety, fear etc.

For instance, talking to a friend who will not let me stay in that thought I’m in makes it easy for the pattern to change. I may go back there later but for a good amount of time I will be out of that thought process that might leave me fearful, worried or anxious. For deeper rooted issues it might not be as easy and getting professional help is advised.

We have the power to control our thoughts. Thoughts are things. What you think about you bring about so work hard to keep off the bad thought path. Simple but not easy.
