Proverbs 23:7 – As a man thinks, so is he

What you think about you bring about.

Your mindset is your greatest asset.

Thoughts are things.

Your mindset is 80% of your success

These and many other phrases like this are all things we hear on a regular basis.  There are countless books written about the topic of mindset and positive thinking.  There are countless programs, seminars and coaches (me included) that help people with this in order to get on track and have success.

If people actually got a grip on their thoughts, I mean really got a grip (simple but not easy based on experience) your ability to achieve success increases dramatically.

What’s the big deal anyway?  Why are thoughts such a big thing to work on?  What makes someone successful simply from having more powerful thinking?

I don’t have the science behind this, but I’m sure there is plenty of research about it.  I only know from personal experience and from coaching clients that mindset is the #1 thing that is holding them back from being successful.

It’s internal and with us all the time.  It comes from the past and right now.

When I first started out speaking I thought I couldn’t charge because I didn’t have any experience and no one would pay me.  Well, guess what?  That kept me being unpaid for many years.  When I changed my thinking to what my standard fee is and that I will speak for free but it is limited to certain situations, the paid engagements increased.  Coincidence?  I don’t think so.

I had the thought that I am not a good writer because I dropped out of high school.  I am not a copywriter or a journalist by any means and maybe my stuff isn’t the way other people write it but I am able to get the point across and oh by the way I’m published in 7 books, 2 of my own with another one coming out soon.

I will say at least in my experience and the experience of many others that I’ve worked with that things from our childhood set us up with our current thinking.  I had a barrage of negativity spewed at me while I was growing up.  That left me with the limiting beliefs I carried through most of my adult life until after I retired from the Air Force and started to do work to stop those thoughts.

It’s not an overnight process and it requires work.  Many do not want to do the work and instead make excuses for why things are the way they are.  That keeps them safe and able to avoid their “stuff.”  Stuff…we all have it, even if we do work, it still comes up.  That’s life.  The difference is once we do the work we tend to recognize it quicker, work through it faster and leave it behind sooner so it doesn’t affect us for today and the future.

The Power is in The Work.  You do The Work, you will have The Power to live your dream life and achieve your goals and dreams.
